Recently read two articles related to AAP, one on elimination of one of its minister in power (Asim Ahmed) on charges of corruption (that’s called walking the talk) and second on the amount of salary increase and take home for ministers which has now been increased exorbitantly.
My article is with reference to the salary hike, which the media and some section have portrayed as exorbitant. To set things on record first, I am not a supporter for political party AAP. But, I will acknowledge what is correct by them or any other political party.
Instead of mentioning the 6-7 digit figures here and the percentage rise, I have some other views to showcase, which I justify and present.
What is the average time span for any person to become a minister? Forget the percentage of such political persons who make it to the ministerial level eventually. Why do we not see many educated, not from political background based budding members sprouting in active politics or bagging seats in the respective legislative houses? To make things simpler, are you willing to leave everything that you have and try your luck in nation’s development via politics?
Most of us wouldn’t dare to join even a small organisation, where it looks uncertain about its potential and growth to help fund our debts, family and retirement corpus, and here we have a bunch of politicians who are trying to make politics their complete professional career and we want to point out the amount of money which will be earning during this period?
We have the habit of comparing oranges with mangoes always! We have seen a particular category of ministers who ride in their private convoy and SUV’s for propaganda and we have made this image of these guys being the rightful candidate or “have sufficient money” to enter into politics. This is one view point where AAP managed to succeed and provide the comfort and ability to common man to see himself in “that seat”. And yes, for all the sacrifice, time and uncertainty, the right amount has to be compensated and should keep up the motivation too. Without materialistic benefits nobody even gives donation to charity these days.
Unfortunately, I have not seen many media houses targeting the young and new age politicians at local level, for other political parties and trying to unearth their income. “While they all have to and do file for their taxes, what about the cash income? “There has been hardly any accountability in that and it exists with equal capacity and prominence, at par with their income with runs with cheque. I can personally point out local politicians who have their fitness centers and cable business (promptly playing the pirated movies) which runs purely on cash income. There is no option to pay the amount in cheque or online, eliminating any effort to show their income and expense in white.
On the other hand, I “thankfully” fail to see any of the AAP guys indulging in such activities or they coming in light. On the contrary I am aware of these guys working full time on being the professional political ministers which is good. Governance and competition is always healthy and influential factor towards growth and development, irrespective of field. It is like welcoming new era of politics; where getting political seat is another side business and means of converting and expanding the local business ambitions. Accept it with a pinch of salt or you may consider this as salt with glass of tequila, your perception, your choice.
BUT UNFORTUNATEY FOR EVERYTHING ELSE, IT IS DISHEARTENING TO SEE THE ACTIONS AND RE-INFORCEMENT OF AK BEING ANOTHER FAKE HERO IN INDIAN POLITICAL CIRCUS.
